The CREPiNi Brand Evolves

Over the last few months, Crepini and The Crepe Team have focused on new product development and business improvement. Production of mini crepes and new flavors is under way, while the team prepares for the launch of their new website. The site should be ready for business customers in early September and consumers can expect to be able to purchase Crepini online later this year.

Crepini's Naked crepes are now Kosher along with their co-branded smoked salmon crepes cream cheese crepes with Acme, and filled flavors are in the process of being certified. As part of food safety management efforts, Crepini is working on the well-regarded ISO 22000 certification.

While Crepini keeps their loyal customers close, the company has its sights set on new markets. With New York City public schools and American Airlines on board, Crepini has sights set on acquiring airlines, higher education institutions, smoothie bars, cafés, and even consumer goods retailers as customers.

Where would you like crepes to be served?

Crepini Attends the Summer Fancy Food Show 2013

The Summer 2013 Fancy Food Show
attracted thousands of attendees to the Jacobs Javits Center in NYC
and The Crepe Team welcomed guests at our booth located next to the front entrance. It was Crepini's 6th show, and this time we brought even more exciting new ideas and unique products to the table.

During the Fancy Food Show we enjoyed combining our crepes with various products from fellow exhibitors. Guests liked the savory combination of Michael’s Tomato Sauce (also made in Brooklyn) with our Four Cheese and Basil crepe. Others had a sweet tooth for our Naked crepe with Sarabeth’s Kitchen  Jam, Spoonable Caramel Sauce, or Sundaes Best Hot Fudge.

This has been an exciting year for Crepini so far, and we anticipate nothing less in the months ahead. Crepini had successfully partnered with Acme Smoked Fish Corp. and made an award-winning co-branded product. Since then, we’ve crafted several interesting new flavors for our Deli Line of Naked crepes, which now come in two sizes – original 10” and mini 6”.

The Crepini website is also being redesigned with a shopping cart. Expected to launch this September, the new site will bridge gaps in the supply chain and allow the smaller food businesses to order directly from Crepini seamlessly. We will begin to partner with cafés, frozen yogurt and smoothie bars in the months to come, and introduce new product lines that’ll include small h’orderves and mini desserts.

About Fancy Food Shows:

Happy International Women's Day 2013

Today is International Women’s Day – a celebration that began in 1975. The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women features the following description of this day on their website:

International Women’s Day first emerged from the activities of labour movements at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe. Since those early years, International Women’s Day has assumed a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike. The growing international women’s movement, which has been strengthened by four global United Nations women’s conferences, has helped make the commemoration a rallying point to build support for women’s rights and participation in the political and economic arenas.
Increasingly, International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.”

Crepini is especially honored – as a woman-owned enterprise with European roots – to celebrate this day in the U.S. Crepini’s overall success as an industrialized specialty food company in 2013 is a great indicator of what the future holds for women in business and beyond. The number of female leaders in our society is rising, giving women all over the world opportunities they never had before.
Crepini supports the UN’s fight for women, and the globalization of women’s rights. Our team wishes our CEO Paula Rimer and women around the globe a Happy Women’s Day!

Valentine's Day Hype

Today is Valentine's Day, one of the biggest commercial holidays in the U.S. next to Christmas and Halloween, during which over 150 million cards are exchanged annually. The History Channel lists more interesting Valentine's Day Facts on their website, such as:
There are 34 single men (i.e., never married, widowed or divorced) age 65 or older for every 100 single women of the same ages.

If you are sharing this day with someone special and want to treat your Valentine, try something different this year. Like make a heart-shaped layered crepe dessert!

To make this an easy-breezy task, you can purchase ready-to-eat crepes which you can find in the stores listed here (just select the state where you live); or you can cook the crepes yourself. Get a heart-shaped baking ring or cut the crepes by hand, and use pink or red frosting to hold the layers together. Here are some fun toppings you can add:

Fruit                                      Sprinkles
Coconut shavings                  Honey
Chocolate shavings               Powdered sugar

For some of you this holiday may be overrated. Whether you're single or just simply anti-Valentine, then treat yourself! Perhaps yours truly does not care for corny heart-shaped cakes. Well indulge in some of the other hype surrounding this day. For instance, you can tune in to the Investigation Discovery channel at 9:00 PM to watch the premier of their Valentine's Day special - 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover . If you think you've had relationship issues, you haven't seen anything yet!

Whatever your situation may be, chances are you will be exposed to all sorts of Valentine's Day promotions, and you should take full advantage!

Crepini Partners with Acme Smoked Fish Corporation

Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Crepes -
the first locally-produced, ready-to-serve product of its kind on the market

Crepini is pleased to announce it has partnered with Acme Smoked Fish Corp. to bring consumers an exciting new product: Crepes with Wild Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese. It’s a combination of both companies’ signature products – Acme’s smoked wild-caught Alaskan salmon and Crepini’s delicate naked crepes – both made from all-natural ingredients.

The partnership between the two companies highlights their commitment to serving the community by using ingredients from local businesses. The beautiful thing about the product itself is its versatility. These ready-to-eat crepes are a healthy alternative to the popular lox and cream cheese bagel, are equally satisfying when served cold or heated and make an awesome meal or snack. The product is also Kosher-Dairy.

"The crepe team is thrilled to collaborate with Acme Smoked Fish [Corp.] on this unique and innovative product line,” says Crepini’s CEO Paula Rimer. The co-branded crepe is the first of its kind – a classic flavor combination with a modern twist. “Working with ACME is inspiring - the company has a vision, expertise in the industry and offers smoked fish products of unparalleled quality."

“We’re thrilled to provide foodies with an even broader assortment of innovative tastes, making it easy to incorporate nutritious smoked fish into one’s diet,” explained Gabriel Viteri, Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Acme Smoked Fish Corporation. “This product launch represents the first available ready-to-serve smoked salmon and cream cheese crepe in the marketplace.” Wild Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese Crepes will be available in stores soon.

Five Things to Enjoy During Winter

The cold season has arrived! Your definition of "cold" may vary depending on where you live, but chances are you will have to adjust to lower temperatures over the next few months. Below are our five things to enjoy when the weather is brisk:

1. Hot chocolate

There is nothing like the comfort of sipping on delicious hot chocolate (accompanied by gooey marshmallows) after a long day out in the cold. Any liquid that warms you up on the inside - tea, soup, hot coffee - is especially satisfying in the winter.

2. Heat

Grab blankets, your loved ones, or your furry friends and warm up next to the nearest available heat source - fireplace, electric heater, car, or other. Appreciate and enjoy extra quality time inside, until the warmer season tempts us to be outdoors.

Find out how you can help people who don't have access to heat this winter, especially those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. When the storm hit a couple of weeks ago, some families' homes were destroyed and thousands of people lost power. In areas where power has been restored, many homes still have no heat or hot water. Surf the web to discover how to help those in need, and remember that a little goes a long way.

3. Snow

Snowball fights, snowmen, snow angels, snow days or just the simple sight of a wintry wonderland - you're never too old to enjoy snow! In many parts of the world, snow is rare or non-existent, and in others it's abundant, so it's easy to forget how beautiful it can be.

Hate coming out in the cold? Keep this in mind: temperatures usually don't drop below zero while snow falls, and extra layers of clothing can keep you cozy in freezing weather; there's no escape from scorching heat if you're walking outside, no matter what you wear!

4. Winter sports

If you enjoy the occasional rush of adrenaline and can make your way up to the mountains, then spending a weekend on the slopes skiing, snowboarding, or snow-tubing is the activity for you. If you don't have to travel far to see heaps of snow, there might be a local hill that you (or a toddler you're accompanying) can use for sledding.

As for those who prefer calmer activities that are ideal for different age groups, ice skating may be worth a shot. Ice skating is not necessarily reserved for wintertime since there are plenty of public indoor skating rinks open year-round; but during the winter you can find beautiful outdoor ice skating rinks in Northern cities, such as New York City's Rockefeller Center and the Tower of London in England.

5. Holidays

The winter season is packed with so many holidays it's hard to keep track of them all!
Winter holidays are celebrated worldwide by people of different backgrounds. Even those who aren't religious can appreciate and take part in the festivities - lights, gorgeous decorations, gift-giving, parties - and of course, greeting the New Year. Heck, even a scrooge can enjoy a few days off from work.

NYSNA Annual Child Nutrition Conference in Niagra Falls, NY

Crepini attended the annual NYSNA Child Nutrition Conference 2012

Crepini's Egg and Cheese Rollups are a Child Nutrition (CN) approved breakfast product, and already on the Citywide Breakfast Menu in NYC public schools. At the New York State Nutrition Association (NYSNA) conference this year, we successfully launched the new Crepini Grilled Cheese Rollup  a certified CN product that would be a great addition to the lunch menu in public schools nationwide.

Crepini Rollups have been on the NYC Citywide Lunch Menu for the last two years. Our products were chosen for two simple reasons: child-approved taste and doctor-recommended nutrition. We want to share the rollup line with schools around the country, so that kids from other states can enjoy the same treat as New York City school children!

NYC Public Schools and Crepini Help Battle Childhood Obesity

Crepini Egg and Cheese Roll-Ups are on the Menu this September

We are proud to announce that New York City public school students will be enjoying a delicious Crepini original for breakfast when they return to school this September. NYC schools have added the Crepini Egg and Cheese Roll-Up to their menu – a blend of natural whole eggs, egg whites, and sautéed onions, spiced up with cheddar and feta cheeses and rolled inside a delicate crepe – a snack kids are sure to love that’s only 100 calories! Parents can be sure their children are getting a high protein meal that will keep them focused, not sluggish.

According to New York State Health Commissioner, Dr. Richard Daines, 34% of children in New York are overweight or obese. Changing the school menu is one of the first steps necessary to reverse the trends in obesity, early-onset diabetes, and hypertension among children and teens. Crepini is excited to be a part of promoting healthy food choices in the public school system. Doctors and nutritionists say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and yet many kids (and adults) skip it because they rush in the morning. Parents should encourage their children to eat breakfast in school if they don’t eat it at home.

Nutrition

Dare we say this? Crepini crepes are a healthier, lighter alternative to breads, pastas, and wraps.
